Epson, a leading name in the printing industry, recently marked its 40th anniversary in Australia with the inauguration of a new head office in North Sydney. This milestone was accompanied by the launch of a range of new printers, set to be showcased at the upcoming PacPrint event. The theme of ‘New Beginnings for a Brighter Future’ encapsulated the essence of the occasion.
Established in Australia four decades ago with a modest team of 20, Epson gradually emerged as a significant player in commercial print, particularly towards the late 1990s. The introduction of wide-format, full-color, inkjet print systems revolutionized the local print landscape, enhancing productivity, efficiency, and turnaround times for businesses transitioning to advanced printing technologies.
Over the years, Epson has diversified its portfolio to cater to various sectors including graphic arts, photo, proofing, sign and display, textile and garment printing, among others. With a workforce of around 150 employees in Australia, the company has carved a niche for itself in the market, boasting a substantial market share in wide format inkjet systems globally.
Craig Heckenberg, the managing director of Epson Australia, emphasized the company’s long-term vision and commitment to stability and perseverance. He expressed optimism about Epson’s future in the print industry, citing the brand’s dominance in wide format inkjet systems as a testament to its success and innovation.
Speaking about the market trends, Heckenberg highlighted the growing demand for customization and personalization in printing, alongside a shift towards smaller job sizes but a higher volume of tasks. Epson’s precision engineering and color management capabilities have been instrumental in meeting the evolving needs of industries that prioritize color accuracy and quick turnaround times.
Gordon Kerr, the product marketing manager at Epson, provided an overview of the company’s extensive printer range, tailored to address diverse market segments. With over 50 printer models offering eight ink types across 12 different markets, Epson continues to expand its product line to align with emerging applications and industry requirements.
At the recent event, Epson unveiled the new P7360 and P9360 printers, succeeding the popular SureColor P6070 and P8070 models. These printers feature upgraded technology, including a 2.64-inch PrecisionCore printhead and an expanded 10-color ink set for enhanced color reproduction and efficiency in production.
Additionally, Epson introduced the SureColor S9160, an 11-color printer designed for the sign and display market. With a wide color gamut and advanced printhead technology, this model aims to deliver superior image quality and color consistency, catering to the demanding requirements of the industry.
Furthermore, Epson ventured into garment printing with the launch of the G6060, its first DTF printer. The Direct-to-Film technology offers versatility in material support and cost-effective production, addressing the evolving needs of the garment and merchandise market. The G6060 boasts advanced features for enhanced productivity and print quality.
In response to the growing on-demand merchandise sector, Epson introduced the Craft Studio, a user-friendly solution enabling businesses to create personalized products efficiently. The company’s commitment to innovation and meeting market demands underscores its position as a key player in the printing industry.
As Epson continues to evolve and expand its product offerings, the brand’s legacy of innovation and quality remains a driving force in shaping the future of printing technology, setting the stage for another successful chapter in its illustrious history.
