Sun Chemical has introduced SunCure Advance ECO UV inks designed for folding carton applications. These inks, part of the SunCure Advance energy curable ink technology line, aim to enhance sustainability and performance in the printing industry. The new UV sheetfed inks offer excellent press color stability, fast curing, and low misting properties, contributing to reduced paperboard waste during printing processes.
The SunCure Advance ECO inks are engineered to operate efficiently on high-speed presses, achieving speeds exceeding 20,000 impressions per hour. They are compatible with various paper and paperboard substrates, including low-integrity clay-coated types. Notably, these inks contain 25–30% bio-renewable content and are certified by the American Soybean Association for their soy content, aligning with the industry’s increasing focus on eco-friendly solutions.
Jim Bishop, the Product Manager of Offset Packaging Inks at Sun Chemical, emphasizes the company’s dedication to sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint of their products and processes. Test partners have praised the ink’s stability and responsiveness under demanding production conditions, enabling enhanced productivity and performance for printers. The inks’ newly engineered chemistries facilitate lower ink and water settings during printing, resulting in improved print fidelity and increased operational efficiency across varying experience levels.
In addition to their eco-friendly composition, the SunCure Advance ECO inks meet industry standards such as ISO 2846-1 color compliance, support G7 targets, and adhere to Graphic Measures International (GMI) standards. Furthermore, a low-migration, Nestlé-compliant version is available for both UV and LED curing conditions, ensuring safety and quality in packaging applications.
To complement the SunCure Advance ECO inks, Sun Chemical has developed compatible fountain solutions like HydroPace 500 and Green Diamond 567. These solutions enhance pressroom efficiency when used with high-speed aqueous and UV coatings, further streamlining the printing process and improving overall print quality.
The introduction of SunCure Advance ECO UV inks signifies a significant advancement in sustainable printing practices within the label and narrow web industry. By combining eco-friendly formulations with high performance, Sun Chemical aims to address the growing demand for environmentally conscious solutions in packaging production. The industry’s shift towards sustainable practices underscores the importance of innovation and collaboration in reducing environmental impact while maintaining operational excellence.
