Windows 11 Update Resolves USB Printer Nonsense Issue

Microsoft has released an optional Windows 11 update, KB5053657, aimed at resolving a peculiar issue that emerged in January. This problem caused USB printers connected to Windows 11 systems to generate random text instead of the intended documents. The update is specifically designed for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2, with no equivalent fix currently available for Windows 11 24H2 users.

Users experiencing the USB printer glitch can manually install the patch through Windows Update or by downloading it from Microsoft’s Update Catalog. Although this update is currently optional, Microsoft plans to include it in the upcoming Patch Tuesday release in April.

The glitch originated from a previous January 2025 update, impacting specific Windows 11 versions with corresponding patches. Microsoft has addressed the issue in the update notes, highlighting the correction made to USB-connected dual-mode printers supporting both US Print and IPP Over USB protocols, preventing them from producing incorrect or unwanted text.

In a separate development, Windows 11 24H2 encountered Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection issues following a January update. Users reported unexpected disconnections during RDP sessions, particularly with UDP-based connections to RDS deployments running older Windows Server versions. Microsoft introduced a Known Issue Rollback as a temporary resolution, automatically reverting the problem on affected devices. A more permanent fix is in progress and will be included in a future Windows 11 24H2 update.

The efforts to address these technical glitches underscore Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing user experience and system functionality. Stay updated on the latest tech developments and solutions to optimize your digital workflow.
